Kronplatz, Italy — Following gradually improving results in GS this season, American Paula Moltzan has gotten her first-ever World Cup podium finish.
Yesterday, the American skier finished third in the Giant Slalom at Kronplatz. Before this podium finish, Moltzan’s best results in GS was two fifth place finishes. This season, she has finished in fifth at the Killington Cup and at Semmering. Before this race, she had three prior podium finishes combined in Parallel and Slalom.
“I am not sure how it’s possible but I told myself second run that I wanted to ski strong and I gave it my all,” said Paula Moltzan to US Ski & Snowboard following the race. “I made some mistakes but recovered well and I am so happy.”
This podium finish is the latest fantastic result for Americans. Two weekends ago, Lauren Macuga won her first-ever World Cup race, achieving first place at the Super-G in St. Anton. Lindsey Vonn, which announced a comeback late last year, has begun building up solid results. In addition, Mikaela Shiffrin continues to build momentum towards a return.
The results for the rest of the podium saw Alice Robinson secure her first World Cup victory in four years, with Lara Gut-Behrami finishing in second.
