One of Wisconsin’s natural wonders was defaced with graffiti and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is requesting help from the public locating suspects involved in the High Cliff State Park incident.

The spray painted cliffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment, which spans New York State to northern Illinois. It began its life nearly 400 million years ago under a tropical sea and was formed when glaciers up to two miles thick gouged out soft shale and left harder dolomite exposed.

“With sad hearts, we wanted to post about the recent vandalism to the park’s iconic rock. How can anyone deface nature that is so legendary? The 725-kilometer-long Niagara Escarpment (Wisconsin to Niagara Falls) began its life as the bed of a tropical sea in Michigan around 450 million years ago. If you have any information that will help us, please contact the DNR tip line at 800 847-9367. This vandalism needs to stop!”Friends of High Cliff State Park

If you have any information that might help the Wisconsin DNR locate the suspects, please call or text the DNR confidential tip line @ 800 847-9367.
