Claremont, New Hampshire — A freak car crash at a New Hampshire ski hill resulted in several people going to the hospital.
The Valley News reports that five people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in the parking lot at the Arrowhead Recreation Area. At least one of the injured individuals had to be airlifted to the hospital, but it appears that none of these casualties are life-threatening.
Various people were leaving Arrowhead around the end of a New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration. A driver crashed into a parked vehicle, with individuals squished in between them. Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot said that one of “the vehicle’s ignition was revved,” resulting in the pedestrians becoming stuck between the two vehicles. The driver that caused the crash had to forcibly removed from the truck. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by authorities.
Arrowhead Recreation Area is a small ski hill that also has a tubing hill. The lift-served skiable terrain is a fraction of its former size, with its summit Poma lift no longer in operation. The ski hill had its tubing hill open this past weekend, but it has yet to open its slopes for the season.
The ski hill has gotten a second wind as a destination for mountain biking. Its steep trails have become a popular spot for the growing sport, and Arrowhead has begun to cater further to this group of recreationists. Last year, The Wheel House, a bike shop, moved into the base lodge at Arrowhead.
