Skiers rescue deer from snow.
Skiers rescue deer from snow.

These guys spotted an antler protruding from the snow while out skiing around Obertilliach, Austria. Upon further inspection they determined that the animal was still alive and began working to remove the animal from the snow with their avalanche shovels, ropes, and other gear.

It’s not clear exactly what type of deer this is, though it looks like it could be a European red deer. These animals are found throughout large portions of Europe, including in Norway, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia. They can even be found in parts of Turkey, northern Iran, and Georgia, and have been introduced to parts of South America, New Zealand, and Australia (they’re obviously not native to the latter three).

It seems pretty clear that the deer had little to no chance of escaping the snow without the help of theses skiers, so good on them for digging the animal out and saving its life.
