Heads up if you are parked illegally overnight in the town of Alta, Utah, the town marshal says putting a homemade sign in on your windshield could save you from an expensive tow job.
KSL Radio reports Alta Town Marshal Mike Morey is asking folks who illegally park overnight to throw up a sign on with their contact information so local authorities can call them to move their car and avoid having it towed. You may or may not get a ticket, but it will save you from the hassle of getting your vehicle towed.
“By the time you pay for the towing and our citation, you can be paying up to $800. And that’s an awful high penalty for a small parking mistake.” -Alta Town Marshal Mike Morey
If you’re questioning the motives of letting parking offenders off easily, it is in an effort to avoid having tow trucks come to the top of the canyon, especially when its snowing. No guarantees, but Morey says using a sign could even get you out of getting a ticket.
If you’re worried about putting your personal information out there where anyone can see, just include basic info like your initials and a working phone number. Word to the wise, if you think there’s an off chance you’ll end up parking overnight in Alta, bring a pen and paper.
