We are big advocates of wearing helmets while skiing and snowboarding and it’s instances like that this that make wearing them a no brainer. No matter how personally skilled you are, you can’t control other people’s actions and a layer of protection against yahoos on the mountain is wise. Thankfully this man was okay after getting a snowboard to the back of the head but if he wasn’t wearing a helmet it might have been a tragic outcome.

A study published by the International Journal of Athletic Therapy and Training found that helmets reduce the risk of head injuries by 35-60% and severe head injuries by about 59%. While helmets effectiveness in impacts is undeniable but they should not provide a false sense of security and skiing and riding defensively is always recommended. Be safe out there folks and wear a helmet!
