Snowshoe Mountain.
Snowshoe Mountain.

Good news for skiers and snowboarders of West Virginia, your ski season has officially begun. Two of the state’s ski area’s, Timberline Mountain and Snowshoe Mountain, have opened to the public with plenty of snow to go around.

Snowshoe Resort celebrates its 50th anniversary

At Timberline Mountain, 8-10 inches had fallen around the mountain overnight, allowing both the Quad Chair and the 6-Person Chair to open during the day. The 6-person to the summit started the morning closed due to high winds, but it does seem like it was able to open later in the day. Terrain wise, 68% of trails around the mountain were open today, including a black diamond.

Meanwhile at Snowshoe, today alone brought 3 inches of snowfall with 6 inches landing in the past 2 days. Three lifts, Ballhooter, Powder Monkey, and Skidder, were opened today, providing access to 14 trails around the mountain. That includes the Progression terrain park, though only greens and blues were available for the first day of the season.

Congrats to the start of the season West Virginia! Hopefully it’s a deep one.
