Dummerston, Vermont — In the roughly three and a half years that I’ve written for Unofficial Networks, one of the most interesting stories I’ve followed is the planned conversion of a base lodge at a former Vermont ski resort into a brewery.
Led by Keane Aures, North Chair Brewing endured years of permitting challenges and a lawsuit from a neighbor concerned about potential noise volumes. Regardless, North Chair Brewing finally received Vermont’s Act 250 approval this year and recently commenced work on renovating the base lodge.
According to an interview with Chris Hayes of the Brattleboro Reformer, Keane Aures described the progress so far:
“We just started doing some renovations to try and get it started. We started doing some demo on the deck and the interior, and we’re trying to get some work started to see when we can get it open.”
The timeline for this project is uncertain, as the many hurdles that North Chair Brewing faced have taken away their confidence in producing a thorough timeline. While they wait to open this brewery, you can check out their hops at their spot in Brattleboro. You can read more about the renovation efforts and their other brewery in Brattleboro here.
I’m not a big-time beer drinker, but I would love to grab a brewski in this historic spot someday.
