Mainers rejoice! Sugarloaf Mountain is set to join the growing list of open ski resorts this weekend. While the resort initially hoped to get things going this Friday, a forecast of mixed precipitation for the day pushed the opening back to Saturday, November 23.
Though Friday is supposed to bring some rain to the area, the Sugarloaf Mountain Report explains that as the extended forecast shows a cold weather snowmaking window, rain is exactly what the resort needs to replenish water reserves for maximized snowmaking. Additionally, the weather could bring some snow to the higher elevations.
For opening day, Sugarloaf will provide skiing and snowboarding on Tote Road and Pinch with access from Superquad. The park team has put up a few park features on Upper Tote Road for a small hike-access park above the top of Superquad. The Narrow Gauge Food Court will be open on Saturday, and all retail shops are currently open daily.
Daily lift tickets for those without season passes are available starting at just $65 a day during the early season. Lift tickets can be purchased here. Sugarloaf will be the second ski resort in the state of Maine to kick off their ski season, following Sunday River‘s opening day back on November 14.
