California — In a country that’s full of excessive lift ticket prices, one popular California ski resort is offering affordable lift tickets for its opening weekend.
This past weekend, Sugar Bowl Resort announced that they’ll be offering $39 lift tickets from November 22 to 24. The move commemorates the ski resort’s founding in 1939, as this is Sugar Bowl’s 85th anniversary. This is a limited-time offer, as it will only be offered for the next several days. These tickets can be purchased online.
Sugar Bowl plans to open for the season on November 22nd with the Jerome Hill Express, White Pine chairlift, and Flume magic carpet. They will also have a terrain park on the Caboose trail with 6-7 features. Other festivities on opening day will include a performance by the Sierra Alpenhorns, live music via various DJs, and a champagne toast led by Sugar Bowl CEO Bridget Legnavsky.
Sugar Bowl Resort is making a few major changes for the 2024-25 season. Their major addition is a reimagined terrain park experience. Called Sugar Bowl Parks | CA, this terrain park network will focus on progression and development. There will be three parks in the Christmas Tree Express Lift terrain pod, which will feature massive jumps and rails.
Skogan Sprang, who’s the Freeski Sport Director for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team, said the following about this terrain park network:
“Lake Tahoe has such a rich history of producing incredible freeskiers and snowboarders. As an athlete who grew up in Lake Tahoe during the golden era of park skiing—when top-tier parks were at every resort here and across the country—there’s nothing I want more than to see Tahoe back on the map as a hotspot for park skiing. For the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team to continue excelling at the Olympic, World Cup, and X Games levels, we need more resorts investing in world-class parks and pipes. This will not only help our athletes progress but also inspire the next generation of young skiers to get involved and have fun.”
Other improvements for this upcoming ski season include the second phase of The Village Lodge’s renovation and an expansion of the snowmaking capabilities at Sugar Rush Tubing by 400%.
