Steamboat, Colorado — After a major expansion last winter, Steamboat Resort is adding a couple more trails for the 2024-25 season.
First used for the 2023-24 season, graphic designer Stefan Bast created a new trail map for Steamboat due to the additions of the Wild Blue Gondola, Greenhorn Ranch, and Mahogany Ridge. The digitally created trail map was made by analyzing satellite photos, LiDAR drone imagery, and various Steamboat vantage points. After sketching the initial design, he used apps like Adobe Fresco, Illustrato, Photoshop, and Procreate to finalize the map.
Last week, Steamboat Resort showed off its revised trail map for the 2024-25 season. If you look closely enough at this revised map, you’ll notice something is different in the Mahogany Ridge terrain pod.
Yes, there are some new trails in the Mahogany Ridge terrain pod. Three trails have been added to the map: Granola Bowl, Nostrils, and Mahogany Ridge Lift Line. Two exit routes have been added to the skiers’ left of Mahogany Ridge Lift Line trail to show guests how to return to the Pony Express. There’s also a marked uphill route that shows how to reach Endless Gully and Nostrils. As shown in the picture below, this area is full of steep rock chutes, cliffs, and tight glade skiing.
We reached out to Loryn Duke, a spokesperson for Steamboat, to ask about these changes to the trail map. She confirmed that three new trails have been added to Mahogany Ridge to define the areas, helping guests figure out how to reach them. In adidion, it will help out employees locate skiers and riders in case they need assistance. However, these new runs will not grow Steamboat’s skiable acreage.
Steamboat Resort’s projected opening date is November 23rd.
