Pagosa Springs, Colorado — Out of all the states, Colorado is probably off to the best start to its ski season. Various ski resorts recently opened for the season thanks to low temperatures for snowmaking and natural snowfall. However, the first to open for daily skiing and riding in North America is nearly 100% open.
Thanks to 66 inches of snowfall this season, Wolf Creek is far ahead of other ski areas across the country that are currently open for skiing and riding. Wolf Creek’s storm total of 25 inches last week allowed them to open more of their challenging terrain, making them around 95% open. Their mid-mountain snowpack sits at 30″, meaning that early-season conditions still exist.
In addition, Wolf Creek has had all its lifts open since Saturday, including Raven, Treasure, Bonanza, Elma, Charity Jane, Alberta, Lynx, Tumbler, Nova, and the Magic Carpets. For those aiming to reach the Horseshoe Bowl, their snowcat is now open. Uphill traffic is also allowed via the Kelly Boyce to Divide trails. Nordic skiing terrain is also open.
Wolf Creek is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lift tickets costing $91 for adults, $60 for seniors, and $45 for kids. On Wednesday, they’ll have a Local Appreciation Day, with lift tickets costing $68 for adults, $49 for seniors, and $34 for children.
