Professional freeskier Tao Kreibich took a pretty epic trip down to Chile during their ski season this year, taking advantage of the awesome season that the country had to offer. Parts of Chile offer some some true volcanic experiences, and he went to have a look.
He spent some time in and around Nevados de Chillán, a year round resort with several natural hot springs. He even skied next to a few of the features, noting the sulfur scent created from the water. The highlight, however, was hitting the Villarrica Volcano.
According to his video, the volcano was at a code yellow warning level, meaning he wouldn’t be allowed above ~6,890 feet despite the mountain reaching up to ~9,186 feet. The volcano didn’t blow up and nothing dramatic happened, but it looked like a pretty sweet opportunity.
Tao’s gear is all listed and available for purchase, including his Peak Performance outwear, Head skis and boots, Pieps avalanche gear, and much more. You can view his whole gear list here.
