Whistler, British Columbia– It’s been a solid week at Canada’s largest ski resort.

The first great thing to happen this week at Whistler has been all the snow that’s accumulated. This week, Whistler received nearly 80 centimeters (31 inches) of fresh snowfall in the upper elevations. In addition, their snowmaking efforts are building up a measurable base. However, the snowpack hasn’t quite gotten to the base area, as grass is still showing in these areas.

They began making snow on October 16th and, as of October 29th, had produced fifteen football fields’ worth of man-made frozen precipitation.

The other big thing is replacing the Jersey Cream Express chairlift. Whistler replaced the 1989 high-speed quad this offseason with a detachable high-speed six-pack chairlift. It will increase uphill capacity by 29%, helping reduce congestion around the mid-mountain of Blackcomb. Jersey Cream is the most popular lift at Blackcomb, as it services easy, intermediate, and advanced terrain.

Yesterday, Whistler announced that the Jersey Cream project is three weeks ahead of schedule. Whistler Blackcomb has a few more tasks before it’s officially ready to ride, but they’re confident it’ll be ready for opening day.

Whistler’s projected opening date is November 22nd.
