Really cool news out the world of surfing as Epic Surf, a deep-water stationary wave company, has teamed up with Aqua Creek, swimming pool lift manufacturer, to create a new system that will allow people of all abilities to go surfing!
“Our lift will safely and securely place users in the correct position on the wave and allow them to pivot back and forth. This will provide them with the ability not only to engage, but to play with the wave.”
We could not be bigger fans of adaptive sports and absolutely love what the folks at Epic Surf and Aqua Creek are working on. We will be sure to update and share as more details are made available. Read the full press release about the project below. Amazing work, Cheers!
EpicSurf is thrilled to announce that, for the third year in a row, it has been nominated as a finalist for the Democratizing Access Award at Surf Park Summit. This year, EpicSurf earned finalist recognition due to the collaboration with Aqua Creek to develop the world’s first standing wave access lift, expanding the inclusivity and accessibility of the surf industry. This award recognizes organizations dedicated to making surfing accessible to everyone, particularly those from landlocked communities and individuals with limited mobility.
For many, the dream of riding a wave has remained just that—a distant dream. EpicSurf, renowned for its cutting-edge deep-water stationary surf wave technology, is at the forefront of making surfing accessible to a broader audience. With the ability to customize waves from 2 to 5 feet (approximately 0.6 to 1.5 meters) at the touch of a button, EpicSurf ensures that whether a beginner is catching their first wave or an expert is honing their skills, the thrill of surfing is available to all.
Since its launch, EpicSurf has proudly shaped waves for a diverse range of surfers, including novices, professionals, children, veterans, and adaptive surfers. EpicSurf’s accessibility features—such as rapid wave adjustability, variable pump flow, retractable training bars, and a drain-dry safety system—provide an inclusive experience for surfers of all abilities. The company’s commitment to accessibility has been recognized through its designation as the first and only standing wave accredited as a Certified Autism Resource by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
Recognizing that true democratization of surfing requires addressing the needs of individuals with physical disabilities, EpicSurf is collaborating with Aqua Creek to design a first-of-its-kind lift mechanism customized for standing waves. This innovative lift system will enable people with limited mobility to access the wave easily, comfortably, and safely. The design will allow users to enter the wave in a secure, supported position, significantly reducing the need to climb or fall.
This lift will be customizable to meet individual needs, providing a tailored experience that ensures both safety and enjoyment. The system will gently lower riders into the water and position them on the wave, allowing them to experience the thrill of surfing without barriers to access. After their ride, the lift will smoothly retrieve riders from the water, facilitating a seamless exit.
Bruce Quay, COO of EpicSurf, emphasizes the company’s long-standing commitment to accessibility and innovation: “From the development of EpicSurf, our focus has been to ensure it is accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level, age group, or ability. With over 50 years of experience in product design, engineering, and innovation, we aim to provide the best entertainment value for patrons, deliver durable and reliable equipment for owners, and create safe and inclusive experiences for all.”
This award submission underscores the potential impact of the collaboration between EpicSurf and Aqua Creek, aiming to eliminate barriers to surfing based on physical ability or access. EpicSurf is committed to bringing surfing inland and providing adaptive programming and surf therapy, ensuring that this transformative experience is available to everyone. This recognition serves as a testament to EpicSurf’s ongoing support for inclusivity in the surfing community and its dedication to making the joy of surfing accessible to all.
