How many ski resorts do you know that close down for a day just so the employees can get out and enjoy the snow? Not many, would be my guess. Up until today, I knew of zero, but now I know of just one. Valle Nevado in Chile.
Valle Nevado posted an announcement to their social media stating that the resort will be closed on Monday, October 7, so team members can get out and enjoy a day of skiing, and a message on their website is quite similar. The resort will reopen on Tuesday, October 8.
“We will be CLOSED this Monday, October 7th as our teams will be taking a break to enjoy the snow. But don’t worry, on Tuesday, October 08 we’re back with everything! Remember that our slopes are open until October 20th, so you still have time to enjoy the best skiing in Valle Nevado. We’re waiting for you!“
Valle Nevado currently has a 61 inch snow depth at ~9,400 feet (3,000 meters). In total, the South American ski resort has seen ~272 inches of snowfall throughout the 2024 season.
If you’d ask me, more ski resorts should have employees only days, even though many of us would get left out on that deal. The people who keep our favorite resorts running deserve a few nice crowd-free days on the mountain.
