THREDBO, Australia – The Australian ski season is coming closer and closer to an end. Several resorts ended things in late August or early September, while a few continued to hold on. On September 11, Thredbo Resort in New South Whales held its last day of skiing. And though their season ended earlier than hoped, they’re celebrating the highlights of 2024.
Thredbo kicked off their season during the weekend of June 8, lacking a major amount of snow with just a few beginner lifts open. But the temperature started falling just after opening weekend and snowmaking was ramped up, allowing the resort to open their High Noon lift.
In July the mountain started to see a whole lot more snow, including a healthy 27cm (~10.5 inch) storm in one night. Later in July, their biggest storm of the month brought 57cm (22.4 inches) of snow to the ground. Through August, stunning blue skies kept the party going as the snow melted away, and early September marked the beginning of the end.
Thredbo is among five resorts nominated for the best ski resort in Australia as a part of the World Ski Awards. Don’t vote if you don’t know what you’re talking about, but if you’ve skied a mountain in the Land Down Under, you can vote for your favorite here.
