Wilmington, New York — The Northeast’s ski season is officially underway. We’re joking unless you consider the first snowfall to be the official indicator of the start of ski season.
Yesterday, Whiteface’s summit received a wee bit of snowfall. With this dusting, they declared it the first snowfall of the 2024-25 season. Whiteface is technically correct. Since we’re in September, which is in the Meteorological Fall, this is the first snowfall for the Northeast’s 2024-25 ski season.
There were even people that skied on it! Wes Poe and a couple of his friends traveled up the Veteran’s Memorial Highway to ski some of the snow at the summit. It wasn’t as deep as last year’s fall snowfall, but they were able to slide around at the summit. They may want to pick up some new rock skis after that expedition.
I’m not saying that the first snow arrived because I visited Whiteface last weekend, but it’s definitely why it snowed yesterday.
