Northeast — This week, Tropical Storm Debby has been making a damaging path through the South. The big question is where it will go next.
With this system continuing to move, heavy rain could create major flooding in parts of the Northeast. Yesterday, NBC 5 meteorologist Tyler Jankoski shared this flood risk map for Friday and Saturday. The map shows that, based on Debby’s current projected path, much of New York have high flood risks. Vermont was in the high flood risk, but has been reduced to moderate.
Currently, the most significant flood risks exist in Central and upstate New York. The risk of flooding is less significant in New Hampshire and Maine, although some local areas could see some flooding.
Vermont has already seen some brutal flooding this year. While not as widespread as last summer, towns in the Northeast Kingdom, like Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury, have dealt with substantial flooding several times over the past few months.
With these systems, a lot can change quickly, so we’ll keep you posted. I’ll say this much, though: I wish all this rain were snow. For more information, check out NBC 5’s video below.
