ICELAND – Icelandic national news service RUV is reporting that Japanese ski jumper Ryoyu Kobayashi may have broken the current world record for the furthest ski jump at Hlíðarfjall. Though it’s still unconfirmed, according to the source, Kobayashi is attempting to jump over 300 meters, but was unable to do so today, April 23.

Red Bull Japan apparently reached an agreement with the town of Akureyri for the construction of the jump a while ago, and preparation and construction on the project, which we featured in a previous post, has been going on throughout the year.

The project in general seems to be shrouded in secrecy, though RUV sources state that Kobayashi jumped 256 meters on his last jump of the day, breaking the current record by around two and a half meters. More jumps are apparently planned for tomorrow.

The video below was featured in a post made about a week ago, detailing drone footage, captured by YouTuber Just Icelandic, of the jump’s construction.
