Boston, Massachusetts— At every Boston Celtics home game, the NBA team honors someone who’s done something incredible. Called Heroes Among Us, the team has honored an individual or a group of people who have positively impacted their community since 1997. In their latest tribute, the Celtics honored two police officers who saved a skier from dying.

The Herald News reports that Fall River Police Officers Garrett Nelson and Guy Furtado were honored by the Celtics during their last regular season home game against the Washington Wizards.

Earlier this season, the two police officers were skiing at Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont. They were taking their last run of the day when they noticed someone ( William Polzun Jr.) who was very worried. His son, Nathan Polzun, collapsed on the piste; he wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. Nelson called 911 and Ski Patrol, Furtado did chest compressions, and William Polzun focused on giving Nathan rescue breaths. This effort couldn’t resuscitate Nathan, but their speedy efforts led to him being revived . Nathan has since recovered, and the Polzuns met with Nelson and Furtado to thank them for their efforts.

The Boston Celtics will begin their title push this weekend. They still await who they will play against in the first round, either the Bulls or the Heat. The writer of this article will be very stressed about their games over the next few weeks (at least).
