COLORADO – It’s that time of year where the weather begins to warm, the snow begins to melt, and the lifts begin to shut down. For most people, spring is a happy time of year. For people like us, it’s a sad time of year. We say goodbye to the sport we love for several months, and that’s hard. But, if you’re an Ikon Pass holder in the front range of Colorado, it’s not quite time to put that storage wax on your skis.

While today was a nice 60°F in Denver, the snow was falling hard just an hour and a half into the mountains. Sadly this snowfall doesn’t mean a ton for some of our favorite resorts. The mountains of Aspen Snowmass have almost entirely closed. Both Steamboat and Eldora will shutdown on April 21, despite the snow they’ve received through this storm.

But three Ikon mountains in Colorado’s Front Range are officially open as late as they possibly can be, and that means we could be skiing into June. Winter Park will shutdown the Winter Park side of the resort this Sunday, but skiing and snowboarding will still be possible on the Mary Jane side as late as the conditions allow. Last year, this continued until May 29.

Meanwhile, at Copper, the initial closing day in April was extended until, you guessed it, as late as conditions allow. The announcement, made yesterday, came right before 18 inches of snowfall hit the resort’s snow stake throughout the night. This is the second year in a row that Copper has extended its season.

Lastly, Arapahoe Basin currently has no set closing date. As long as there’s snow, there’s skiing and snowboarding, and with the mountain’s high elevation, this can mean a pretty late ski season.

Next season’s Ikon Pass, which provides access to all three of these resorts (limited access to Arapahoe Basin, unlimited for both Copper and Winter Park), is currently on sale, with prices set to go up on April 18. If you want in, you better act fast.
