Morrison, Colorado- If you’re looking for a cool place to backcountry ski, cross-country ski, or sled near Denver, you should head to Meyer Ranch Park. Many decades ago, this park was home to a small ski area.

Mount Lugo, also known as Meyer Ranch, operated for a couple of years in the early 1940s. For this brief period, a singular 1200-foot rope tow serviced 173 acres of skiable terrain. A horse-drawn sled transported guests from the parking lot to the rope tow. Unfortunately, the gas rationing of 1942 led to its downfall. According to Colorado Ski History, despite being closed for over eight decades, some remnants of the old rope tow remain.

This past weekend, YouTuber The Ninja on the Mountains shared a video of him snowboarding at the old ski area. He ended up shredding a route known as The Old Ski Run. Compared to other abandoned ski areas in the state, this one is on the mellower side. Still, it looks like fun exploring this place.
