Last weekend, Nevada’s newest chairlift opened to the public.

Last Friday, Lee Canyon opened up the new Ponderosa chairlift. The new Skytrac quad chairlift gives the ski resort a new beginner area for novice skiers and riders. Before this expansion, the beginner terrain was limited to Rabbit Peak lift and trail. The new chairlift services the Bonanza Ridge, Foxtail Alley, and Limber Pine Lane trails. All three of these trails are designated as beginner terrain.

“In recent years, Lee Canyon has experienced unprecedented growth of its community, especially season passholders,” said Dan Hooper, who’s the general manager of Lee Canyon, to KTNV. “As Las Vegas’ backyard outdoor resort, our goal is to continually invest in our guest experience.”

This new chairlift was part of a $7 million in capital improvements. Other improvements include a new beginner carpet and trail, 450 new parking spaces around the Ponderosa base area, and the construction of a mountain biking park. Lee Canyon was able to pull all these projects off despite a massive mudslide that ravaged the ski resort this past summer.

Currently, Lee Canyon has six trails and four lifts open. To open their last remaining chairlift, Sherwood, they’ll need more snowfall. Luckily, some powder is on the way over the next couple of days.
