The decades-long wait for a fast chairlift to the summit of Attitash is finally over.

On Sunday, Attitash Mountain Resort opened up the Mountaineer, a detachable high-speed quad chairlift that has replaced the infamous Summit Triple. Deidre Riley (Mountain Operations Manager at Attitash), Preston Kelsey (Competition and Scanning Supervisor at Attitash), Dave Miller (Fall Line Construction, which helped build the chairlift), and Joe Keleman (30-year Attitash Ski and Ride School Instructor) got the honorary first chair.

Attitash picked a pretty good day to open up the new chairlift. The New Hampshire ski resort picked up 11 inches of snowfall on Sunday thanks to the first big snowstorm of this winter.

The Leitner-Poma detachable high-speed quad makes the trip to the top much quicker compared to its predecessor and reduces lift lines at the ski resort. The new lift’s capacity per hour is 2400 guests, which is a massive improvement over its predecessor, which carried 1500 people per hour.  The ride time is around seven minutes, a horse’s pace compared to the Summit Triple’s 12-16 minute voyage.

Next Saturday, they’ll be hosting a Cheers to the Mountaineer Celebration. Starting at 8 a.m., they’ll be having music, giveaways, and some special surprises for guests.

Vail Resorts has revitalized Attitash, a ski resort that had been neglected for decades by various owners. Vail Resorts and the leadership team at Atttiash deserve a ton of credit for the work they’ve done there. Once again, Attitash is becoming one of the premier ski resorts in New Hampshire.
