Last weekend, Snowshoe’s newest chairlift made its debut. On Friday, December 15th, Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia opened up the new Powder Moneky chairlift.

The Powder Monkey chairlift, which was installed back in 1977, was replaced by a fixed-grip quad chairlift from Skytrac and Leitner-Poma. This new lift has a larger capacity (almost 1000 more riders per hour) compared to its predecessor, reduces congestion in the Basin terrain pod, and provides an easier means of access to the Western Territory. The new Powder Monkey lift has a loading conveyor, meaning that it moves pretty fast for a fixed-grip chairlift. This is the first new chairlift at Snowshoe since 2006.

Since Powder Moneky’s opening, Snowshoe has even seen a bit of snow. With 8″ of powder in the past couple of days, the turns must be quality in almost heaven, West Virginia.
