This season so far has not been kind to the ski resorts in the Cascade Mountains. A lack of snowfall has made opening difficult for ski resorts across the Pacific Northwest. One mountain though has used its snowmaking prowess to make winter happen early.
On Saturday, Mission Ridge became the first ski resort to open in Washington. If you’re looking to be even more technical, you could say that Mission Ridge is the first to open in the Pacific Northwest (if you don’t believe Idaho is a part of the region).
Here’s what Brad Whiting, who’s the Chief Operating Officer of Mission Ridge, said in a press release to Source One about being the first to open in Washington:
“Even though conditions and temperatures have been less than ideal in November, our teams pulled together, as they always do, to make it happen and get the resort open by Thanksgiving weekend. We are extremely proud of our snowmaking capabilities and team here at Mission Ridge. They really set us apart in the Northwest. That being said, it takes a tremendous effort from all of our crews across the mountain to prepare for the winter season. We are excited to open and welcome our community back up to The Ridge.”
While they’re open for the season, this is a limited opening for a couple of days. They currently have Chair 1, The Wenatchee Express (Chair 2), and the Pika Peak Rope Tow spinning. For trails, the Sunspot, Tumwater, and Mimi, Pika Peak runs are open. They will close down on Monday to continue their snowmaking push.
They plan to reopen next Friday for more skiing and riding.
