This year, Reed Hastings made headlines for becoming the majority owner of Powder Mountain. Powder has already announced that the next few years will see significant investments, including new lifts, lodges, and backcountry terrain.

A couple of weeks ago, the Silicon Slopes Summit hosted a discussion with Caroline Klein (Chief Communications Officer for the NBA’s Utah Jazz), Ryan Smith (Founder of Qulatrics and Governor of the Utah Jazz), and Reed Hastings (Co-Founder of Netflix).

The discussion is pretty interesting due to it focusing on Reed’s new venture at Powder. He details that Powder’s core values will be about “being and doing.” The doing has already been established (skiing, mountain biking, and other activities), but they will be improving the infrastructure (lifts, lodges, and other facilities). The being has yet to be announced, but Reed described it as experiences that will grow your spiritual self. Powder Mountain’s future plans are expected to be announced in further detail next summer.
