Planning a ski trip this winter? The Michelin Guide has released a list of more than two dozen of the best hotels for skiers and snowboarders across the United States, highlighting everything from luxurious slopeside accommodations to secluded mountain retreats.

The selections span some of America’s most popular ski destinations, including Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and the Northeast. Each property has earned at least One MICHELIN Key, the organization’s hotel distinction recognizing exceptional accommodations, service, and overall guest experiences.

Colorado Leads The Way With Eight Recognized Hotels

Colorado has one of the strongest collections on the list, with eight properties recognized across several mountain destinations. Aspen is home to three selections, including The Little Nell, one of the country’s most recognizable luxury ski hotels. Located directly at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, the property offers ski-in/ski-out access, an upscale spa, and the popular Ajax Tavern.

Hotel Jerome and Mollie Aspen also earned recognition, while Vail is represented by the Sonnenalp Hotel and Four Seasons Vail. Both properties offer convenient access to Vail Mountain.

Telluride’s Lumière by Dunton and Madeline Hotel & Residences also made the cut. Perhaps the most unconventional Colorado selection is Dunton Hot Springs, a remote retreat offering access to backcountry and heli-skiing in the San Juan Mountains.

Utah’s Luxury Ski Hotels Make The List

Utah received several nods, including Stein Eriksen Lodge and Montage Deer Valley, two luxury properties offering direct access to Deer Valley Resort. Park City’s Washington School House Hotel and Goldener Hirsch also earned recognition. Further south, Sundance Resort made the list for its combination of mountain skiing, creative atmosphere, and secluded setting in Utah’s Rocky Mountains.

Jackson Hole, Big Sky, And Lake Tahoe

The Michelin Guide also highlighted several notable Western mountain destinations. Wyoming’s Jackson Hole selections include Caldera House, Hotel Jackson, and The Cloudveil.

Montana’s Big Sky area features Montage Big Sky and One&Only Moonlight Basin, the latter of which provides direct mountain access through a private heated gondola. Edgewood Tahoe represents the Lake Tahoe region, offering ski services and transportation to Heavenly Mountain Resort.

The Northeast Also Gets Plenty Of Recognition

The Northeast rounds out the list with hotels across Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.

Notable selections include Whiteface Lodge and Mirror Lake Inn Resort in Lake Placid, The Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont, Prospect Berkshires in Massachusetts, and The Norumbega Inn in Maine.

Several of the hotels listed by the Michelin Guide in their “best ski hotels” aren’t quite what we’d call ski hotels, lacking direct access to ski resorts. However they all have skiing within a short drive, so we can’t make too much of a fuss. I can’t personally attest to any of these hotels as I haven’t had the honor of staying at any of them, but they certainly all look very nice.
