Speedflying

What, exactly, is speedflying? Is it just flying really fast? Is there a freestyle element? Are there any speedflying competitions around the world? Is it something I can do myself? Is it something I can do in my own living room? There’s a very good chance that you’ve never asked any of those questions, but you’re going to get an answer to some of them today.

This video actually does a really great job at not answering any of the questions posed above. It’s title, “A detailed explanation of the sport SPEEDFLYING“, doesn’t quite fit the video. Instead, it’s the video description that does most of the explanations.

Speedflying is one of those unknown, insane to think about sports. People may have heard of it, but speedflying sure doesn’t show up on any “extreme sports list” you may find on the internet. Now that may be due to the fact that the sport is fairly new, but I think it could also be because the sport is seldomly documented. Nobody has seen speedflying before.

While the video itself does a pretty piss poor job at explaining the sport, it does do a fantastic job at showing the sport. Oh, and it’s just cool. That counts for a whole lot in my book.

Speedflying is definitely one of those sports made for the fearless. Do I enjoy throwing myself down a snow covered mountain on two wood planks? I do. Would you’d still have to pay me a boat load of money to throw myself down a mountain suspended in the air by a tarp? Yes, you would. I don’t really think I’m alone with that thought.
