I don’t know about you, but I just love having to navigate my way down the road from hell after a long day of skiing. Nothing quite wraps it all up like dodging small-car-accident-sized holes while some a-hole sits on my bumper in their extremely oversized truck, all while I’m exhausted after several hours of working out on a snow covered mountain.

If you also enjoy that gauntlet, may I recommend Berthoud Pass? Is a dusting of snow on the pass while driving home from Winter Park in the middle of the winter a bit of a nightmare? Sure. But it’s nothing compared to the abomination that is Berthoud Pass in the spring of 2023.

Berthoud Pass is definitely not the only scary road in Colorado right now. The 20 mile rut in the right-hand lane of I-70 West between Eisenhower Tunnel and Idaho Springs (if you know, you know) certainly falls into the category of nightmare potholes, and there’s plenty more to write home about. But Berthoud definitely seems to have the scariest and most unexpected.

The worst part of it all, though? Dealing with the impatient wackos who still pass in the left lane on the uphill, forcing you into the Mariana Trench of potholes. I just sit in the left lane for the drive up. There are much less potholes and you can wait, Mr. Impatient.
