You know what’s terrifying? Big wave surfing. It’s wicked cool, but I get spooked watching clips of that stuff on my couch. I would much rather get a lsendy in some gnarly chutes on a snow covered mountain than risk getting crushed by an enormous wave (or falling off an enormous wave only to be crushed by it immediately after).

Good news is, if you’re a surfer and are about to be hit by a big wave, you can just dive under it, right? Just swim to the other side of the wave, you won’t get tossed around or crushed to bits! Well, according to professional surfer Tanner Waite, that’s not quite the case.

Replying to @Aaron i should have tried to catch the wave still hahaha #surftok #bigwaves #wipeout #fun #goodtimes

So you still get rag dolled and tossed around. Obviously, with smaller waves, you might be able to punch through the back by diving, but not at Nazaré. Yeah, count me out on that kind of surfing.

In case you need a bit more context into the size of this waver, here’s the original video:

My experience at Nazaré went a little something like this hahaha #surfing #bigwaves #fun #nazare #bigwavesurfing
