If you are preparing to visit Alta or Snowbird in the next couple of days, it’s time to change those plans. Yesterday, the UDOT Cottonwood Canyons announced that SR-210 will likely be closed until at least Friday due to the risk of wet avalanches. For perspective, the photos below of the avalanche from the White Pine Chutes are from today.

The last chance people had to get up the canyon was on Sunday night from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. They then reopened the road for downhill traffic from 5 a.m.- 9 a.m. The next reopening for SR-210 is uncertain, and may not happen until at least Friday.

Here are the operational plans for this week for Alta & Snowbird: Alta is having a limited opening today with only the Transfer Tow, Sunnyside and Sugarloaf lifts operating. Snowbird will only be running the tram, Wilbere, and Gadzoom lifts. Most of their dining options will be closed this week, with the exception of Forklift, SeventyOne, and the Atrium. There is the possibility that Little Cottonwood could go into interlodge at any time.

It’s going to be an interesting week in the Cottonwoods, and we’ll keep you posted here at Unofficial Networks on the latest developments.
