“Fire station’s been blocked before. We’ve had to tow cars out of the intersections. They’ve completely blocked off Guardsman Pass.”– Shane Franchow, Unified police officer.

Utah has had a deep snow season, which means that more drivers are coming up, and thus, more people are parking illegally.

KSL spoke with Shane Franchow, who is the Unified police officer, to discuss parking violations in the Cottonwood Canyons. Drivers are blocking off emergency and community access, which creates a multitude of issues.

Unified Police are now increasing their enforcement of these parking problems, as they are issuing fines of $150-600 per vehicle. There’s also a chance you get towed, which costs $600-800, or more depending on the circumstances.

Shane Franchow recommended driving up early to snag a spot with sufficient space. If you get up late and park in a narrow spot, bring a shovel to clear some more space to get your vehicle fully on the right side of the white line on the road.
