This past offseason, Breckenridge Resort replaced Rip’s Ride with a high-speed quad. Their New Year’s resolution for 2023 is to replace the 5-Chair ( a fixed-grip double chairlift) with a new high-speed detachable quad chairlift.

CBS Colorado reports that public comment submissions for the lift proposal have begun, followed by the completion of an environmental review by the U.S. Forest Service. Most of the chairlift will be on private property, but upper lift towers will be situated on public land.

A replacement for the 5-Chair has one significant advantage: it helps improve guest circulation, which is a struggle for one of the most popular ski resorts in the country. The lift services beginner and intermediate terrain. Two terrain parks are also located around the chairlift: Park Lane and Freeway. The new chairlift could open during the 2023-24 season.

As pictured below, a reconfiguration of the Peak 8 learning area is also planned for the coming years. The new Peak 5 chairlift is on the bottom right.
