Loveland Ski Area, CO officially started their snowmaking operations last night on the Chet’s Dream lift to prepare for opening day.
The ski area is stoked to be making snow, but cautioned guests to not get too excited just yet. It normally takes Loveland two weeks to cover the opening day run from tree to tree with an 18″ base.
Loveland opened for the season on October 30th last year.

“Snowmaking has begun at Loveland Ski Area. Loveland’s snowmaking team started making snow on Catwalk and Mambo just after midnight. The snow guns were still stacking up little pieces of winter as of 10:00am this morning and the forecast looks promising. Loveland began snowmaking on October 10 last season.
“I love the sound of snow guns in the morning,” said Rob Goodell, COO. “Our snowmaking team was ready to go when the temperatures dropped, and they had a very productive first night of snowmaking. We are off to a great start and will continue to make snow as conditions permit. Ski season is right around the corner.”
It typically takes about two weeks for Loveland’s snowmakers to cover the opening day run from tree-to-tree with an 18 inch base. Loveland Ski Area will open with a full top-to-bottom run made up of the trails Catwalk, Mambo, and Home Run.
The opening day run is 1,000 vertical feet and over a mile in length. Last season Loveland opened on October 30.
