An out-of-this-world experience will be coming to Snow King Mountain Resort in 2023.  Buckrail reports that a planetarium and observatory are currently being built on the summit of Snow King Mountain Resort in Jackson, Wyoming. It will be the first observatory on top of a ski resort in North America, and will feature a “24-foot AstroHaven dome along with the one-meter PlaneWave telescope, …an eight-meter digital planetarium with capacity for 30, a classroom/theater space, galleries with interactive exhibits, and event space.” It will host one of the largest telescopes in the world that is dedicated to public outreach.

The new planetarium and observatory, pictured below, are expected to be complete in the late summer/early fall of 2023.

This news follows years of rapid development for what was once s quiet town ski hill. A new gondola to the summit, along with a new terrain pod with a triple chairlift that was added for the 2021-22 season, changed that. Other future additions will include more snowmaking, new glades, a summit restaurant and lodge, and more.
