Watching vintage ski clips is one of my favorite pastimes. Seeing how our forefathers would manage to slide their way down the slopes using outdated gear and unprotective clothing always gives me joy.

The clip below is of the 1949 British Ski Championship that took place in Grindelwald, Switzerland.

Check it out:

I always wonder how skiers back in the day weren’t always wet and freezing their asses off. We’re fortunate to have fancy GORE-TEX and insulated gear, but I’m genuinely perplexed at how little clothing every skier before 1980 seems to have worn.

Skiing has come a long way since this clip was filmed in 1949, but we couldn’t have it made here without them. Respect!
