As someone who’s been a part of interlodge, this was a pretty fun trip down memory lane. Alta described the interlodge experience in their latest “Steeped in Tradition” episode. For those who don’t know, interlodge is where due to large amounts of snow and avalanche risk, people must stay inside whatever building they’re in. If you don’t, you risk death, and a “Class B Misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and 6 months in jail.”

I was part of Alta’s February 2020 Interlodge, which was a total of fifty-two hours. Wet snow led the resort to be closed for all of Thursday and Friday and then opened back up early Saturday. Luckily on Thursday, the town of Alta gave guests a brief window to drive back down the canyon, which I took part in. The following February saw a record sixty-hour interlodge thanks to one hundred inches of snow in a week, and sixty-three inches during the interlodge period. A snippet of the film is below.
