New Whaleback Executive Director Jon Hunt has big plans for the future of Whaleback. They are aiming to add a new surface lift for the racing and terrain park area, renovate their existing summit chairlift, expand and improve their snowmaking systems, develop a ski school, and grow their summer operations. One summer idea is the addition of a disc golf course. The Valley News reports that the Upper Valley Disc Golf Association will be building a disc golf course at Whaleback in 2022. The eighteen-hole course will begin construction in the Spring, and will either be completed in the summer or the fall. The mountain hosted its first annual disc golf tournament in October and was impressed with the turnout. The UVDGA will need donations and volunteers will need volunteers and donations to complete the project though, which you can help them out with here.

In other news, Whaleback announced a new beer collaboration with Protectworth Brewing. The Whaleback Mountain Ale is an Indian Pale Ale, which isn’t my favorite kind of beer, but it definitely has its fair share of fans. The IPA will be available at Whalebacks’ annual New Year’s Eve Demo Release Party tonight. The beer is also available at retailers that have Protectworth products. In terms of the skiing, Whaleback had its surface lifts open this past week, but a rain period will keep the lifts closed until next week.
