Mountaineering in snowy conditions is no joke. One simple slip can send a mountaineer plummeting to his or her death in a matter of seconds.
The video below might not seem all that crazy, but think about if this man would have kept sliding. It’s probably safe to assume that he wouldn’t be gently stopped by a pile of pillows and stuffed animals.
Thankfully, he uses his ice axe perfectly to self-arrest, and essentially saved his own life in the process. Things can get serious really quickly in the mountains, and this dude handled the situation perfectly.
