“It was just a call to action and we just did what we needed to do and got them out” -Patrick Brown
Hats off to Patrick Brown and his fellow coworkers at the Carcross/Tagish First Nation who came across a deer and fawn in distress at the bottom of newly constructed sewage lagoon and snapped into action. The CBC reports the crew used some rope to fasten some fabric ladders as a makeshift ramp to the bottom of the pit and coaxed the deer in its direction.
“The magical ladder to freedom wasn’t exactly an inviting surface, I guess, for those little hooves. The fawn seemed to figure it out before the mom did. I think the mom was focused on the safety of her baby, but the baby was like, ‘Hey, mom, we got this.’ So they eventually just figured it out.”
Once out of the pit, the two animals “magically pranced off into the bush.” The workers decided to leave the fabric ladder in place in case something similar happens. The pit should be safely enclosed within weeks as a fence is currently being constructed. Cheers to these fine fellows.
