Beautiful program hosted by the Sawtooth Avalanche Center where they teach Know Before You Go avalanche curriculum to almost every 8th grader in the Wood River Valley! For 2020/2021, the team of instructors presented virtually then hosted in-the-field hands-on workshops teaching students how to use transceivers, probes, effective. Would love to see this type of early outreach in mountains towns across the country and the world:

This year the FSAC taught a Know Before You Go program to almost every 8th grader in the Wood River Valley! Our team of instructors presented virtually then hosted in-the-field hands-on workshops teaching students how to use transceivers, probes, effective shoveling, and how to use topo maps to understand the terrain.
Avalanche education is a vital component of the SAC’s mission and the Friends of the SAC [FSAC] continued to orchestrate general avalanche awareness outreach for schools, recreational groups, and businesses of interest. These general awareness programs provide avalanche safety information for people recreating, working, or traveling in the Sawtooth National Forest and surrounding areas. During the 2020-2021 pandemic winter season, FSAC utilized online learning modules to execute delivery methods to the public. The online platform was a huge success and we had a record number of attendees for our lectures.
