“I grabbed that surveying stake and hit that mountain lion once and I kinda remember he made eye contact with me. I swung and hit again a second time in the face.”

Gnarly story out of Colorado where an Estes Park man fended off a mountain lion that was attacking his 70lb boxer Sadie with a surveying stake. Local realtor Gene Whannel let his dog out in the back yard in the predawn hours last week and heard a commotion which he recognized as a mountain lion attack minutes later. He sprinted to the scene and found an old surveying stake laying on the ground which he used to pummel the cat which relented its grip around the dogs head. He rushed Sadie to the vet where she underwent surgery for her puncture wounds. Three hours and 70 stitches later Sadie was successfully patched up. She lost an eye and her ears are very chewed up but is expected to make a full recovery. Hats off to Gene for his bravery to save his friend. Cheers buddy.
