Afriski Resort, located in the Kingdom of Lesotho is the first ski resort in the southern hemisphere to open for the 2020 season.

The African ski hill opened for it’s first day of the season on June 6th. The ski hill sits at 10,600 feet above sea level in the in the Drakensberg-Maluti Mountains. The resort has a total of about one kilometer of trails.

With travel bands in place due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Afriski is essentially open to locals only.

The next ski resort to open in the southern hemisphere is Mt Hutt resort in New Zealand which is set to open on June 12th.

Many Australian resorts are planning on opening on June 22. Resorts in Argentina and Chile remain affected by lockdowns and have not released opening dates.
