It is being reported by vtskiandride.com that a skier passed away over the weekend in a backcountry zone off Stowe Mountain Resort’s Spruce Peak. On Saturday, Andrew Hyrb, 36, of Darien, Ct., died after falling over a cliff on the east side of Smuggler’s Notch. His brother Alexander, 35, called 911 at 6:30pm after losing his brother and getting cliffed out on top of a 200-foot cliff.

Rescuers found Andrew’s body near the base of the cliff. Soldiers from the Army Mountain Warfare School were then called in to assist in the rescue of Alexander.

The rescue operation didn’t conclude until about 1:40 am on Sunday morning. The incident was considered an accident and Andrew’s injuries were consistent with the fall. The accident happened on state land, well outside the ski area boundaries. – vtskiandride.com
