A International Ski Federation (FIS) official told Swedish television on Wednesday that the alpine skiing World Cup Finals scheduled for next month in Italy will be held without any fans in attendance due to the concern over the Coronavirus.  Northern Italy has been hit by an outbreak of the virus which has killed 12 people and infected 400 in Italy.

The World Cup Finals will be held between March 18-22 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the site of the 2026 Winter Olympic ski events.

“As it stands Cortina is still where the competition will be held, but with no fans,” FIS event director Markus Waldner told public broadcaster SVT. Waldner went on to say, “This could change in the coming days.”

Denmark has confirmed its first case of the coronavirus after a man who returned from a ski trip in northern Italy tested positive for the disease.
