It is being reported, that five British nationals, including a child aged 9, have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in the France ski resort town of Les Contamines-Montjoie.

The infected were staying at a ski chalet in the France town 75 minutes from Geneva, between Chamonix and Megève.

The latest outbreak originated from a resort visitor who had spent time in Singapore, officials said.

The child is one of five Britons who tested positive for the virus – another six UK nationals are being kept under observation in French hospitals.

The group had been staying in two apartments in a ski chalet in the Haute-Savoie region in the eastern French Alps when they were visited by a Briton who had been in Singapore and was found to have the virus when he returned to the UK at the end of last month. – The Guardian

French health minister Agnes Buzyn told Reuters the affected individuals were being treated and are not in serious condition.

“That original case was brought to our attention last night. It is a British national who had returned from Singapore, where he had stayed between Jan. 20 and 23, and he arrived in France on Jan. 24 for four days,” Buzyn told the wire service.

The new infections bring the total number of coronavirus cases in France to 11.

Globally there have been 34,000 other infections with 724 deaths connected to the coronavirus which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
