Fortunately no skiers were onboard the Snowbowl Montana chairlift that separated from its haul rope and came crashing to the ground. Oddly, Snowbowl has not issued an explanation through their social channels or website other than to say The Lavelle chairlift is closed/lift tickets are reduced price and a link to an article by The Missoulian with an interview by Snowbowl’s Andy Morris.

The incident happened Wednesday and sent a chair tumbling to the ground after two skiers had unloaded at the top station. The lift was then emergency evacuated. No one was injured. Snowbowl’s Andy Morris says one of six strands of the chairlifts ropes had frayed causing the accident and must be spliced before the lift can be operational again. Snowbowl is currently putting together workers and experts who can splice the rope. Repairs will likely take more than a week before it’s operational

No apologies issued for the dangerous situation, no promises for investigations and for explanations of how such a severe fuckup could have taken place, no compensation for guests already committed to going to a resort where a chairlift fell to the damn ground.
