“I took my jacket off and lay in the snow and I was like, I’m done. I’m going to let myself freeze. So I did that for like 10 minutes but then I was like, OK, this isn’t happening quick enough, so I decided to head back to where it was warmer.”

Mark Gayowski was ready to “let nature take its course” after getting lost while skiing off Red Mountain resort and surviving two frigid nights in B.C.’s backcountry.

Mark Gayowski had a fantastic Monday all planned out. He was going to hit the slopes of Red Mountain Resort in southern B.C. by 10 a.m. and then ski over to his friend’s condo at the resort to meet up to watch Star Wars by 2 p.m. Everything was all good until the 34-year-old construction worker was on his final run and spotted an out-of-bounds trail that looked intriguing.
